Formación en consultoría para el ejercicio profesional de licenciados en estadística

Abstract

The context and strategies of a statistical consulting workshop course for students of the Bachelor's Degree in Statistics at the Universidad Veracruzana are described; the central purpose was to train them for the world of work. The activities focused on the development of skills for posing and solving real problems and oral and written communication. The project-based learning (PBL) approach was used in three phases: (1) project protocolization, (2) periodic monitoring and (3) closing of the consultancy with the delivery of results. Progress was evaluated periodically during the weeks of the workshop course; within this framework, feedback was provided to ensure that the objectives of each project were met. The results showed the development of skills to: (1) translate complex statistical concepts into clear and accessible explanations, (2) in the strategies of analysis and interpretation of results and (3) to present reports with clear explanations for clients. It is concluded that the design and development of statistical consulting projects associated with real problems not only allows the effective application of theoretical knowledge and skills in the application of statistical methodology, but also promotes the comprehensive training of statisticians, to that in the future they become effective consultants.
